December photo update

Julian turned 6 months old, and Grandma Jean sent a present! The box and ribbon were greatly appreciated, and baby Hedwig is also a big hit.


Once Julian turned 6 months old, we started feeding him "solid" foods. So far he loves baby oatmeal, seems to like most vegetables (except peas), and is somewhat skeptical about most fruits. He feels pretty good about making a big mess, though.
 

It's been cold and snowy here, so Julian has to wear his polar bear suit.


Grandma Jean sent Julian a postcard from Egypt! He thinks postcards are very tasty and fun to wave around.


We have a Christmas tree, but Julian doesn't seem to be very interested in it, which saves us a lot of worry. Nor did he pay much attention to the menorah candles. Electrical outlets, on the other hand...

Red sweater!

Julian has a new handmade red sweater! It fits perfectly. He also has a wooden spoon.

6 months

Today Julian went to the pediatrician for his 6-month checkup, a few weeks late due to scheduling issues. He was pronounced by the doctor to be in perfect health! He weighs 15 lbs. 14 oz., and is 25 3/4 inches long.

His current skills include: clapping his hands, holding things in both hands and smacking them together, passing objects back and forth from one hand to the other, sitting up unsupported, standing up supported, and reaching for toys that he's dropped. He still says "aaah" a lot, but he also says things like "dadadada" and "bopbopbop." He's started eating rice cereal, oatmeal, and various pureed fruits and vegetables, though he's sometimes skeptical about the whole idea (particularly in the evening). Favorite toys are plastic cups, mama's hair, and anything within reach, and tonight we gave him a wooden spoon and he thought it was the best thing ever. He's started scooting around a little bit and can stretch to grab things that would previously have been out of reach, and he's starting to work on pushing himself up off the floor, so while it'll be a while before he actually crawls we can see it coming. He's becoming more adorable and entertaining every day!

Going for a walk

Just one pic, taken with my cellphone yesterday as we were out for a walk:

5 months

Julian is five months old!

He weighs fifteen pounds. He can roll from his back to his front easily, but he doesn't seem interested in rolling the other way - he'd rather practice crawling. Of course he can't crawl yet, but he kicks and flails (it looks like he's swimming the butterfly) and looks like he really wants to be mobile. He's still wearing 3-6 month size clothes, but just barely. He makes a lot of noise, from the frequent pterodactyl screeches to the "I'm hungry" ah-da-da-ga-ga noise. Lately he's started flailing his arms and smacking things, instead of grabbing everything and stuffing it in his mouth, though he still does that too. He loves standing up (with help) and sitting up, and when he's sitting he grabs his toes and giggles. Best baby ever!

Healthy baby

Julian just had his 4-month checkup (a few weeks late). He weighs 14 lbs. 15 oz., and is 25 2/3" long, which puts him in the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th percentile for height. He's recovering from his first cold, which he came down with last Friday, but otherwise he's in perfect health and hitting all his developmental milestones. He didn't enjoy getting his shots, of course, but he calmed down quickly and seems pretty cheerful now.

Julian has a new toy, the Tiny Love Super Deluxe Gymini, aka "the jungle." It has four brightly colored animals to play with, and he likes hanging out in there and trying to rip off the giraffe's leg. He also likes this sparkly ball, though he mostly enjoys grabbing it and trying to stuff it in his mouth.
 
As mentioned in the previous post, our moms came to babysit.
 
New skillz: he's quite strong and can hold his head up while lying on his tummy, and he really likes sucking on his fingers:
