Happy Holidays!

Julian had a very happy Hanukkah and a Merry Christmas!

We couldn't manage pictures/movies of all his new toys, but rest assured they have been thoroughly investigated, admired, and enjoyed!

Busy

Julian has been very busy lately! Not including all the new toys, which will appear in a separate post...

We went to a party at his friend Julia's house, where we all read about noses together:

He's been doing a lot of reading (sometimes about birds!) and some sculpture:

He likes the Itsy-Bitsy Spider, but is easily distracted:

Last weekend we went to the WOW Museum, where he learned to play the piano with Daddy:

"Are you sure you can't make it go any faster?"

And he's still practicing his counting!

1, 2, 3 moonies!

We have a tree! And Julian is working on his colors.

And on his numbers, too!

He got even further than this, but we didn't get that on video.

He's also working on the difference between where he's allowed to use his crayons ("paper") and where he wants to use them (everywhere). But we'll let that go undocumented.

A few movies

Lately we've been having what you might call Weather. Julian was very excited about the first snowfall!

Since then, we've bought him snow boots and snow pants, and he goes sledding down the big hill behind his daycare classroom. Best of all, there's a toddler-sized sled in his favorite color, yellow.

His new favorite song is ring-around-a-rosy. Usually he wants his parents to sing, but occasionally he'll sing it himself.

He's a pro at eating with a fork and spoon, and is slowly getting over his insistence on always having one of each utensil at every meal, no matter what he's eating. (Mind you, that didn't stop him from eating pumpkin pie with his fingers at mommy's office party today. He's taking after his grandfathers in his love of pie.)

A few weeks ago we went to a party at Julian's school, where we all ate spaghetti and watched the kids run around. They had a fine time with all the parents there at once.

MOONIES!

Julian is very fond of having Mommy or Daddy get out their "buttons" so he can watch "moonies" of himself. So here are a few new ones!

Sadly, bee-ball season is over:

But he was very proud of both of his buttons.

He likes to have a snack.

He likes to look at letters with Daddy,

and read books with Mommy.

He's always on the lookout for airplanes.

And of course, he's always a dancing man.

October update

Julian is ready for fall!

He's got his Junior Scientists of America shirt:

He loves the library, which is a good place to hang out when it's cold outside:

He thinks he's ready for driving lessons. His parents disagree.

He went to get a haircut with Daddy!

He looks very handsome with his new haircut:

And he thinks that leaves are a lot of fun.

A red letter day

Today Julian came home cranky, having no idea of the wonders that were waiting for him in the backyard.

Even with all that excitement, he still had time for his favorite produce.

And to play a little peekaboo and look at a tree.

And he was all too happy to share his new favorite word!

It was a good day.

A Day at the Zoo

On Labor Day, Julian and I went to the Denver Zoo! We went with his pals Milo and Geoffrey, and their moms Madeline and Monica. Madeline posted some pictures at her blog, too.

First, we saw some giraffes! I think these were Julian's favorite animals; they were very big and strange and easy to see, even far away. He had a lot to say about them and wanted to hang out there for quite a while.

But then we walked along (I pushed the stroller while Julian ran ahead) and we saw a polar bear! (Julian, bear, Geoffrey, Monica, Milo)

Julian ignores the bear

Then we made our way into the tropical environment. There were a LOT of fish and, correspondingly, a lot of puddles to splash in. Julian also liked the bright blue frogs, but we didn't get a picture of them.

And at the end of the tour of the tropics, we saw a GIANT DRAGON.

After all that excitement, we had lunch and the boys passed out in the car on the way home. We had a great time and only saw a little bit of the whole zoo, so we'll definitely go back soon!

DeWareWolfe: Birthday Edition!

Julian is here, and he wants to say hi.

He has a very special birthday greeting!

And then there was a very special birthday greeting aftermath.

Julian has had a great summer, especially the parts that involve being outside!

He's had time to read a few books,

and go to a few parties,

but now that August is over, it's time to think about school.

Now with bonus movies: The quest for the perfect hat, part 1:

And part 2:

Plus, a boy who knows his foods.

Happy birthday, Grandpa Tom!!
For a trip down memory lane, check out last year's birthday post.

Tods 1: The first day

Snack time!

Julian calls the snacking to order! Julia, Kelly, Julian, Maisie and Maya

Mmmm sippy. Kelly, Julia, Julian and Maisie. In the back: some moms!

Notice the cubbies in the background. What big kids!

Playing in the fountain downtown

(he loves splashing in this one and is always very displeased about having to go home, even when his pants and shoes are completely soaked.)

Julian is learning more words at an amazing rate: cheese, door, out, all done. He also went down the slide on the playground at daycare all by himself yesterday!

Pretty much the same thing

Although Julian can't say the word "fish", he knows how to move his mouth just like a fish does. He will start doing this whenever he hears the word fish, or whenever he sees a fish in a fishtank, in a book or anywhere else.

Last night Julian was walking by the television, and suddenly he started doing the fish thing. But it wasn't real fish on the TV:

Vocabulary

At 15 months, Julian can say a lot of words:

uh-oh
hi
bye-bye
mama
dada
up
down
ball
light
duck
dog
banana
milk
eyes
bird
more

He also knows a few signs:
more
milk
eat
thank you (though he only does this one if you do it first)

And although he can't say their names, he can make sounds like a:
car
fish
monkey

Julian knows

Julian knows so many things! He knows where his tongue is:

He knows how to build, and how to destroy:

He knows how to clean, and how to do kung fu, sometimes even at the same time:

He knows the sign for "thank you":

He apparently knows the cavalry war cry of the ancient Huns:

And he knows where Daddy's shoes go, or at least he thinks he does:

But most importantly, he knows who his parents are.

Keeping cool

Julian has a new hat!

But sometimes he just needs to wear his shades.

Julian dans le jardin

Julian likes to be outside. He spends a great deal of time on the patio, and he loves to help out with the garden.

He knows that a gardener needs a good sun hat.

He pulls weeds,

waters the plants with the hose

and with a watering can,

and enjoys harvesting some nice fresh produce.

A party political broadcast on behalf of the Julian party

It's an election year, and Julian would like to say a few words to support his candidacy.

His platform strongly emphasizes the environment.

But he also stands for a firm national defense.

So vote Julian — he'll keep the wheels of government turning!

At least, as long as he's awake.

Incredible wildlife drama

Tonight on Animal Planet: for the first time captured on film, live in its natural habitat, the wild Julian.

This shadowy creature of legend is mostly an inhabitant of the hard and unforgiving floor, but when it finds itself in a softer environment, playful hijinks unusually ensue.

Julians do many things instinctually, but they also learn essential adaptive behavior from semi-wild Cousin Milos.

Incredibly, the wild Julian is able to domesticate other creatures, in particular, the non-wild Rocking Horse.

And after a long day playing and feeding at the watering hole, the wild Julian can often be found sitting near the remains of its meal, drifting off into a safe and well-earned sleep.

Places to go

Julian has some photos to share!

We all took a trip to Portland to see his aunt, uncle and cousins. In the hotel, he had a little corner where he liked to hang out.

There were so many toys at their place, it was super exciting.

But even better than toys was meeting his new role model, Cousin Milo!

But Portland isn't the only destination in his travels. As you can see, he also likes to go to the Home Depot.
